# Reading a Book

Knovel has a built-in EPUB reader so you can read without leaving the platform.

## Opening a Book

From any book page, click **Read** to open it in the reader. If the book has multiple chapters, you'll start at the beginning (or pick up where you left off if you've started it before).

## The Reader Interface

**Chapter Navigation** The chapter list is accessible from the sidebar on the left. Click any chapter to jump directly to it. On mobile, tap the chapter icon at the top of the screen.

**Reading Themes** Three reading themes are available: Light, Dark, and Sepia. Change them from the settings panel (gear icon) in the reader toolbar. Your theme preference is saved and applied to all books.

**Font Size** Increase or decrease font size from the same settings panel. Changes apply immediately and are saved to your account.

**Progress** Your reading progress is saved automatically as you read. If you close the reader and come back, you'll be returned to where you left off. Progress syncs across devices if you're logged in.

## Marking a Book Finished

When you reach the last chapter, you'll be prompted to mark the book as finished. You can also mark it finished manually from your reading list.

Marking a book finished contributes to its trending score — authors benefit from readers completing their work, so this matters.

## Downloading Books

Downloading for offline reading is not currently supported. If this is important to you, let us know — it's on our feedback tracker.
