Reviews, Reading List & Following
Reviews & Ratings
Reviews help other readers decide what to read next, and they give authors real feedback on what's landing.
Leaving a Review
You can leave a review on any book you've read. To write a review:
Open the book page
Scroll to the Reviews section
Click Write a Review
Give the book a star rating (1–5) and write your review
Click Submit
There's no minimum length for reviews. A sentence is fine. A full essay is also fine.
You can edit or delete your review at any time from the book page or your profile.
What Makes a Good Review
The most useful reviews tell other readers what to expect without spoiling the experience. What genre does it actually read like? Who would enjoy it? What worked? What didn't?
Knovel does not remove negative reviews as long as they follow the community guidelines — specifically, reviews must be about the book, not about the author.
Ratings
The star rating on each book is an average of all reader ratings. Ratings are weighted by verified reads — readers who have progressed meaningfully through the book have their ratings counted at full weight. Brief engagements count at reduced weight to protect against rating manipulation.
Building a Reading List
Your reading list is your personal library on Knovel — books you want to read, books you're currently reading, and books you've finished.
Adding Books
From any book page, click the Bookmark icon to add it to your reading list. You can also add books from the Explore feed or search results without opening the book.
Reading States
Books in your list are automatically sorted into three states:
Want to Read — bookmarked but not started
Currently Reading — you've opened and progressed through the book
Finished — you've marked it as complete
You can also move books between states manually from your reading list page.
Privacy
Your reading list is private by default. Public reading lists are a planned feature.
Following Authors
Following an author means their new releases, chapter updates, and announcements appear in your feed.
How to Follow
From any author's profile page, click Follow. You can also follow from a book page — the author's name links to their profile.
Your Feed
Books and updates from authors you follow appear on your home feed. New chapters of ongoing works also show up here so you don't miss updates on books you're actively reading.
Unfollowing
Click Following on an author's profile to unfollow. Their content will stop appearing in your feed immediately.
