# Creating Your Profile

Your Knovel profile is your public identity on the platform. For authors, it's the first thing readers see — so it's worth taking a few minutes to set it up properly.

## Setting Up Your Profile

After connecting your wallet, you'll be prompted to create your profile on first login. You can also access it anytime by clicking your avatar in the top right and selecting **Edit Profile**.

**Username** Your username is your public handle on Knovel. It appears on your author page, your published books, and in community spaces. Choose something you'll want readers to recognize and remember.

* Usernames must be unique across the platform
* Allowed characters: letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens
* You can change your username later, but your public URL will change with it

**Display Name** This is the name that appears on your profile and your books. It can be your real name, a pen name, or anything else — it doesn't have to match your username.

**Bio** Your bio appears on your author profile page. Keep it short and direct. What do you write? Who is it for? What should a first-time reader know about you?

There's no character limit enforced, but shorter bios tend to perform better. Two or three sentences is usually enough.

**Avatar** Upload a profile image. Square images work best. Minimum recommended size is 400x400px.

## After Your Profile Is Set

Once your profile is saved, you'll be taken to your dashboard. From here you can:

* Start writing your first book
* Explore the platform as a reader
* Browse your notifications and activity feed
